Teaching with American Prison Newspapers

The American Prison Newspapers collection has taken great efforts to prioritize the voices of incarcerated women. Studying women’s prisons will enable students and instructors to explore critical differences between men’s and women’s facilities. Readers can expect to learn about the various approaches to prison programming in women’s facilities as well as changes over time. 

The instructional material compiled here will facilitate a deeper understanding of the issues that matter most to incarcerated women. Additionally, this page will feature information and resources pertaining to studying sex/sexuality as it appears in a carceral setting.
