SITUATION
Academic institutions are increasingly seeking streamlined, trustworthy, and cost-effective solutions to meet changing needs and values in education, including:
At the same time, arts and humanities professionals are increasingly marginalized by funding cuts in their disciplines, job insecurity, and, along with many in education, increased workloads.
Artstor on JSTOR integration addresses these issues by streamlining offerings to bring diverse content together in a digital format optimized for teaching with an arts and humanities focus.
“As traditional forms of instruction continue to be disrupted and with their budgets facing ongoing headwinds, library leaders will need to continue making difficult decisions that will impact the role and value of the library going forward.”
“Even before the pandemic, libraries were investing more significantly in purchasing and licensing digital collections over time, and the vast majority of library directors anticipate this trend . . . to continue in the long term.”

SOLUTION
JSTOR is investing in the future and sustainability of Artstor’s high-quality collections and key functionality by incorporating it in one platform, where we will continue to build tools for teaching and learning as we expand access to this invaluable visual resource.
MARKETING PHASE
Artstor on JSTOR Integration (AJI) Phase III: Announce and Support
GOAL
Following an internal decision made in September 2022 to retire the Artstor platform in late 2024, we will turn our focus to announcing the timeline to current Artstor participants and their users in January-February 2023, and supporting them holistically in confidently navigating the change.
The goal of the sunset announcement campaigns, starting with the Administrator Announcement campaign on 1/23/23, is to support Artstor and Forum users as they prepare to migrate to the JSTOR platform, providing timely notice and equipping them with vital information and direction to ensure a smooth transition. By notifying administrators first, we will set them up for success in answering questions from and providing support for their users, who we will notify in a subsequent Faculty User Campaign on 2/6/23. This foundation of support and engagement with existing Artstor admins and users will in turn set ITHAKA up for success when we turn our attention to launching Artstor on JSTOR for new participants later in 2023.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Administrator Announcement: OKC’s (Outreach Key Contacts) and administrators at all Artstor- and/or Forum-participating institutions
Faculty User: Faculty users at all Artstor- and/or Forum-participating institutions
